Gulen Verdict Postponed Five Years

Ankara State Security Court (DGM) No. 2 this morning postponed a verdict in the case of Fethullah Gulen, who is being tried on charges of leading an illegal group. Gulen's lawyers demanded acquittal for their client and applied to the court for a continuation of the case. There was no verdict arising from charges nor evidence substantiating any charges in the Gulen case; therefore, the court could not charge him with anything and evaluated the case within the framework of Article 4616 of the Conditional Release/Case and Charges Postponement Law.

Judge Huseyin Eken stated that the court had reached its decision to postpone the final verdict in Gulen's case according to Article 4616 of the Conditional Release/Case and Charges Postponement Law. Gulen's three attorneys were present at this morning's hearing.

In a petition submitted to the court, attorneys Abdulkadir Aksoy, Orhan Erdemli and Murat Akinci claimed the decision to postpone the final verdict had no valid grounds. The lawyers demanded a continuation of the case and Gulen's release.
