International Conference Wraps Up

International Conference Wraps UpThe second day of the international conference, Muslims between Tradition and Modernity, The Gulen Movement, is wrapping up in Germany. The conference, organized by the University of Potsdam's Institute of Religion and the Forum for Intercultural Dialog focused on the thoughts of Fethullah Gulen.

Former speaker of the Federal Parliament of Germany, Professor Rita Sussmuth, said issues of the world could not be resolved alone and emphasized that it is inevitable for modern societies to have intercultural and interfaith dialogs.

Journalist Rainer Herman also gave a speech at the program and said the Gulen Movement had great contributions to the democratization efforts in Turkiye.

Professor Thomas Michel presented his paper titled, "The Concept of Ikhlas in Gulen's Teachings" and said acceptance of the will of God is a central teaching.

Professor Sylvia Powels-Niami delivered a presentation on the tradition of religious discussions in Islam and the origin of the ring parable. She said the tradition of religious discussions ended in 1492 when Muslims were exiled from Europe.

Powels-Niami also said it is possible for societies to be made reconciled with religion and the approach of God.
